LBJ girls basketball team rolls to city championship

LBJ added another city title to its packed trophy case early this year as Coach Paul Romero's seventh and eighth grade girls won the city tournament and finished the season with a perfect 12-0 record.

"The girl's played outstanding basketball and never gave up, even when they struggled in a couple games," Romero said. "The biggest challenge was trying to keep players healthy and injury free, because several girls also play on club teams."

Providing leadership for the team were team captains Amelia Gallegos, Giannah Aragon, and Eboni Winfield -- all eighth graders. Winfield also received the Barb Anderson award for outstanding academics, leadership, and multi-sport participation.

Other members of the team were: Sydney Jaramillo (8), Ariana Zajac (8), Iliana Encinias (8) Tiana Bowman (8), Julianna Navarrete (8), Jill Sims (8), Savannah McGuire (7), and Angelyn Aranda (7).

Special thanks go out to assistant coach David Gallegos and all the parents and fans for their support.
